Every town is full of stories.

Some belong to well-known landmarks, others live in the memories of the people who grew up here, in favourite shops, familiar pubs, and the people who quietly made a difference to those around them.

The Love Your Town Red Plaque Trail was created to celebrate those stories.

Inspired by the iconic blue plaques seen across the UK, this project shines a light on the people and places that matter most to our community. Residents were invited to nominate the individuals, spaces and places that hold a special place in their hearts, from inspirational local heroes and dedicated volunteers to beloved businesses and everyday locations where memories were made.

The plaques you see here are the result, chosen by local people, for local people. Alongside the winning plaques, this exhibition also highlights a number of runner-up nominations, celebrating even more of the stories that make our towns unique.

Developed as part of the wider Love Your Town programme, the Red Plaque Trail is a Checkmate Productions concept designed to celebrate local identity through community-led storytelling, connecting Grimsby and Cleethorpes through the people, places and moments that matter most.
